
Flat-screen televisions come in a wide range of sizes and types, including plasma and LCD displays. Each one has a distinct set of connection options for hooking up a DirecTV receiver. Each DirecTV receiver has multiple connection ports on the back of the unit to accommodate various types of TV hookup configurations. Choose the configuration that works best with your television when installing your receiver.
HDMI
Step 1
Connect the input end of the HDMI cable into the TV HDMI port.
Video of the Day
Step 2
Connect the output end of the HDMI cable into the port on the back of the DirecTV receiver. The port is longer than other connections and is labeled "HDMI."
Step 3
Set the TV input selector to the HDMI setting.
Component Video
Step 1
Connect the green, blue and red cables into the corresponding ports on the back of the DirecTV receiver. They are labeled as "Component Video Out."
Step 2
Connect the other ends of the cables into the ports on the back of the flat screen TV.
Step 3
Connect the audio cable into the Audio Out ports on the back of the DirecTV receiver.
Step 4
Connect the other end of the audio cable into the left and right audio ports on the television.
S-Video
Step 1
Connect the S-Video cable into the port on the back of the DirecTV receiver labeled "S-Video Out."
Step 2
Connect the other end of the S-Video cable into the port on the TV labeled "S-Video" or "S-Video In."
Step 3
Connect the left and right audio RCA cables into the Audio Out ports on the back of the receiver.
Step 4
Connect the other ends of the audio RCA cables into the Audio or Audio In left and right ports on the flat screen TV.
