Hook up stereo speakers to bring shows, movies and games to life.

You can enhance the audio experience when watching your Panasonic Viera TV by pumping the TV's audio through stereo speakers in addition to the TV's built-in speakers. Different from the majority of TVs, Panasonic Viera TVs only let you output the TV's audio using an optical output instead of a standard audio output. If your receiver has an optical audio input, you can just use an optical cable, but if your receiver doesn't have an optical input, you can use an optical cable, an audio cable your receiver does have an input for and a converter that lets you connect the two audio cables.

Step 1

Connect one end of the optical cable to an optical audio input on your stereo receiver. Alternatively, if your stereo receiver does not have an optical input, connect the red and white connectors on one end of a standard audio cable to the matching-colored input jacks in a standard audio input. You can also connect one end of a digital audio cable to a digital audio input jack.

Step 2

Connect the other end of the optical audio cable to the DIGITAL AUDIO OUTPUT port in the lower right corner on the back side of the Panasonic Viera TV. Alternatively, if you are using a standard audio cable, connect the two connectors on the other end of a standard audio cable to the standard audio input on a standard audio-to-optical converter. Connect one end of an optical cable to the optical input on the converter, then connect the other end of the optical cable to the DIGITAL AUDIO OUTPUT on the back of the TV. If you are using a digital audio cable, connect the connector on the other end of a digital audio cable to a digital audio-to-optical converter. Connect one end of an optical cable to the optical input on the converter, then connect the other end of the optical cable to the DIGITAL AUDIO OUTPUT on the back of the TV.

Step 3

Turn on the stereo receiver and press the "Input," "Source" or other similar button change the receiver's input to correspond with where you connected the cable that is extending from the TV. The TV's audio will now be played through the TV's internal speakers and the speakers associated with the stereo receiver.
