How to Make Emoticons on the Keyboard

Emoticons are digital symbols used to represent facial expressions of the users. You can use animated GIF icons, image icons or key selections to send an emoticon. To create emoticons using your keyboard, you can select from many different key options to represent a range of emotions and mood. The most common key is the colon (:), which represents the eyes of the emoticon.

Step 1

Make a happy face. Press the colon ":" key. Then add the ")" key, which represents the mouth. :)

Step 2

Make a sad face. Use a colon and the other "(" key to represent a frowning mouth. :(

Step 3

Wink at someone. Instead of the colon, use the semi-colon key to reflect one winking eye. ;)

Step 4

Give someone a big hug. Use the "D" to represent a wide grin combined with the "<" and ">" keys to represent arms. >:D <

Step 5

Be a nerd or an angel. Type a colon, a dash, and a "B" to represent awkward, big teeth. :- B The angel emoticon utilizes a "O" to represent the halo above the angel's head. O:- )

Step 6

Tell someone to keep a secret by utilizing the "$" key to represent zipped lips. : - $

Step 7

Give a thumbs up or thumbs down by using the "q" for thumbs down, and the "b" and "d" for thumbs up. :- q :- bd

Step 8

Raise your eyebrow by utilizing the "/" key. /:)
