The Dell Dimension 3000 is a top-of-the-line Dell desktop computer, but as with any PC, there may come a time when it has lost the ability to function well. There could be any number of reasons this happens, from a program that was not installed properly to a virus that you can't seem to get rid of. Whatever the reason for the malfunction, there is a way to restore your Dell Dimension 3000 to factory settings. You should note that a Dell PC Restore, which wipes all added files and programs off your computer, is different from a System Restore, which simply reverts your Windows Operating System to an earlier date.
Turn on your Dell, and as soon as you see the blue "Dell" bar at the top of the screen, push "Ctrl" and "F11" at the same time. Hold for three seconds and release simultaneously as well. At this point, a Dell Symantec window will open.
Select that you wish to "Restore" your Dell to factory defaults, and then "Confirm" that you wish to proceed.
Wait for the Dell to run through the restoration process, which according to Dell Support can take approximately 10 minutes. At one point during the restoration you will see a pop-up that asks you to restart your computer.
Click "Finish" and this will restart the computer. Do not shut it down manually.
Click "I Agree" when the End User License Agreement screen appears. At this point you will see other prompts, asking you to set your computer's time with the proper time zone, language preferences, etc. Follow all prompts that appear. When the setup is finished, you will be asked to click "Next" so that your computer can reboot again to finish the PC Restore process.
Click "Next" and wait for the Dell to restart. When it restarts, select "OK" and your Dell Dimension 3000 is now back to factory settings.
Try doing a System Restore for your version of Windows first. If that does not solve your computer problems, then proceed with the Dell PC restore.
An antivirus program should be the first program that you reinstall on your Dell, as you are wide open to viruses if you connect to the Internet without one.
