Upgrading from a basic Internet connection to high-speed FairPoint DSL is a step in the right direction, but taking your home computer setup to the next level requires the institution of a wireless network. A wireless network will clear your house of clutter, along with allowing you the freedom to set up your computers in any room of your choosing, removing proximity constraints between the modem and the PCs. Setting up your FairPoint DSL modem for a wireless signal requires nothing more than a wireless router.
Unplug the connection between your current PC and the DSL modem.
Plug one end of an Ethernet cable into the back of the DSL modem.
Plug the other end of the Ethernet cable into the port on the back of a wireless router.
Follow the setup instructions (such as configuring your network security code) as outlined in the instruction manual for your particular wireless router. Your Fairpoint DSL signal will now be broadcast wirelessly throughout the house.
