The Pioneer VSX-455 is a home entertainment stereo receiver developed by Pioneer Electronics. While the VSX-455 receiver is no longer in production, there are a number of classified ads and auction Web sites offering the device.

Dolby Digital 5.1

The VSX-455 is a Dolby Digital 5.1-ready digital audio receiver. Dolby Digital 5.1-capable receivers can be used to power a high-quality digital listening environment similar to that found in movie theaters. The 5.1 channel audio means that the receiver is capable of five audio channels at one time, designed for left, center, right, left surround and right surround speakers and a sixth low-frequency effects channel.

The VSX-455 receiver is capable of up to 110 watts per each speaker channel. The receiver includes pre-output speaker channels for five surround sound speakers, including a center speaker channel. There is also a pre-output speaker channel dedicated for the connection of a subwoofer speaker.

Audio and Video Inputs

The VSX-455 receiver features a number of inputs for connecting both audio and video input devices. These can be used to connect things like additional CD, Tape, Blu-Ray, DVD and other media devices using A/V connectors on the back of the receiver. The VSX-455 has three available audio inputs and two available video inputs.
