How to Sharpen a VLC Player

Video LAN's VLC media player is a adept alternative to native media players, like Microsoft's Windows Media Player and Apple's Quicktime player. But because VLC media player isn't quite as popular as the aforementioned media players, finding some basic settings like "Sharpen" can be a bit of a challenge to new users. And though some users may have a hard time locating the the sharpness setting in VLC media player, it's almost hidden in plain sight.

Step 1

Launch a video clip using VLC player--manually load the clip if VLC player isn't set as your default player (right-click> Open With> VLC player).

Click on the "Tools" heading at the top of VLC player and then select the "Effects and Filters" option from the drop-down menu that appears.

Step 3

Click on the "Video Effects" tab in the menu that appears, and then check the "Sharpen" box below the tab.

Step 4

Drag the "Sigma" slider to the right, just slightly, to adjust the sharpness of a blurry video--the "Sharpness" tool is sensitive. Click "Close" after you're satisfied with your adjustment.
