Technics Home Stereo Hook Up Directions

Technics home stereo systems might seem dated now, with their tape deck and phono connections, but Technics doesn't cut corners with quality. If you have one of these old systems, there's a good chance it will still work well with CD and DVD players. Just as with any surround sound system, you may choose to connect two front speakers and listen to audio in plain stereo, or you can connect a full 5.1 speaker configuration to enjoy the latest movies in theatre-quality surround sound.

Step

Turn off and unplug the receiver and all components.

Step

Plug one end of an RCA cable to the red and white “Out” or “Output” RCA jacks on the back of one of your components, and plug the other end of the RCA cable into the corresponding red and white “In” RCA jacks on the back of the receiver, matching red-to-red and white-to-white. For example, if you are connecting a CD player, you would connect the RCA cable to the red and white “In” jacks under “CD.”

Plug one end of a black speaker wire into the “-” clip on the back of the left front speaker. Plug one end of a white speaker wire into the “+” clip on the back of the left front speaker.

Step

Plug the other end of the white speaker wire into the “+” clip under “Front L” on the back of the receiver.

Repeat steps three to five to connect the right front speaker to the “Right +” and “Right -” jacks on the back of the receiver.

Step

Plug the receiver and all components into power outlets and turn them on.

Step

Press the “Speakers” button on the receiver to activate the speakers.

Use the “Input Selector” knob to select which component you wish to use, and use the “Volume” knob to adjust the volume.
