Fashion design just got a whole lot easier. The new Cricut Maker is a smart cutting machine that cuts everything from paper to fabric to leather to balsa wood. So, now you can design and make a handbag without using your hands. Or at least without using your hands for the tedious parts like cutting and marking—you'll still need to do the sewing.

Using the Cricut Maker app, you can upload your own designs, use one of 50 ready-to-make projects, or choose from one of the hundreds of patterns from the digital sewing pattern library. Just pick a project, and the machine cuts all the pieces you need.
The Cricut Maker comes with an expandable suite of tools, including a rotary blade and a knife blade that can cut, write, and score material with crazy good precision and control. So, you don't even need a steady hand to literally create something awesome from scratch.
Its professional cutting technology intelligently controls the direction of the blade and adds force to cut through the toughest materials. And there's a convenient docking slot that holds your tablet or smartphone and even charges it.
It also comes with a washable fabric pen, which automatically marks your fabric pieces so you know how they fit together. There's nothing worse than cutting all your pieces, only to realize you failed to mark them.
You can buy the Cricut Maker here for $399.99. It would make a great gift for a budding fashion designer (one you really love and want to spend $400 on).
