Chery Exlantix ES Electric Sedan: Europe Launch Details, Range, and Open Questions

Chery's premium arm Exlantix plans to bring the Chery Exlantix ES electric sedan to Spain in the first half of 2027, with no European pricing published and no WLTP range certification completed. The car carries roof-mounted LiDAR, dual Nvidia Drive Orin X chips, 800V charging architecture, and up to a 100 kWh battery hardware that sits at the premium end of what's available in Western showrooms. What European buyers cannot yet verify is more consequential than what they can.

The ES launched in China in May 2025, sold under Chery's Exeed brand, priced between 189,800 and 269,800 yuan (approximately $26,660 to $37,950), according to CarNewsChina. A 2026 spec update, revealed last month, centred on driver-assistance and cockpit computing rather than powertrain changes, CarNewsChina reported.

The entry price belongs to the single-motor 230 kW rear-wheel-drive variant with a 77 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery and 705 km of CLTC range. The dual-motor all-wheel-drive version with a 100 kWh ternary lithium battery reaches the top of the range at $37,950 and that's where the full hardware package lives: LiDAR, dual Orin chips, air suspension, CarNewsChina reported last November.

At those prices, the ES undercuts its two closest Chinese rivals. The Xiaomi SU7 starts at around $30,300 and the BYD Han L EV opens at roughly $30,900, placing the ES below both at entry level, per CarNewsChina.

Those China prices will not transfer to Europe unchanged. Import costs and potential tariffs would push the number higher, though by how much is not yet known. The relevance of the China pricing isn't that European buyers will pay $27,000. It's that Chinese manufacturers have pushed hardware that Western rivals still position as premium into a mid-market tier and the ES is a clear example of that pattern.

Chery Exlantix ES Europe launch: Spain first, everything else unconfirmed

Spain is the first confirmed European market, with arrival targeted for the first half of 2027, 32cars reported earlier this month. No pricing has been published. No additional European markets have been confirmed. Whether Exlantix treats Spain as a pilot or the start of a broader rollout is not clear from available information.

Chery Exlantix ES range and charging: competitive figures, unverified standard

The pure-EV powertrain uses either a 77 kWh or 100 kWh battery on an 800V architecture. The single-motor variant claims 705 km of CLTC range; the dual-motor version claims 710 km, CarNewsChina reported. A regulatory filing with China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology lists the 2026-spec 97.7 kWh variant at 835 to 860 km depending on tyre size, though the filing did not disclose specific testing conditions.

No official WLTP figure exists. Estimated WLTP-equivalent figures put the two configurations at roughly 505 km and 610 km respectively, 32cars estimated. Those numbers are competitive in the segment. They're also roughly 30 percent below the headline figures Chery uses in promotional materials, which matters when European buyers are comparing against WLTP-certified competitors.

The aerodynamics work in the car's favour. A drag coefficient of 0.205 for a 4.95-metre, 1.98-metre-wide sedan is genuinely low, 32cars noted. The dual-motor configuration produces 353 kW; Exeed claims 4.9-second acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h and a braking distance of 34.8 metres from 100 km/h, CarNewsChina reported last month.

A range-extender variant is also planned for China, pairing a 41.1 kWh LFP battery with a 1.5-litre turbocharged engine and a claimed 20-to-80 percent charge time of 17 minutes under Chinese test conditions. Whether this version reaches Europe, and under what regulatory framework, has not been confirmed, 32cars noted.

The tech stack: sensors and chips that haven't been tested in Europe

Upper trims carry 30 sensors, roof-mounted LiDAR, and dual Nvidia Drive Orin X chips producing a combined 508 TOPS of computing power, CarNewsChina reported. The 2026 Falcon 700 driver-assistance system, the centrepiece of last month's update, draws on a 27-sensor suite: 11 cameras, 12 ultrasonic radars, three millimetre-wave radars, and one LiDAR unit. Exeed says the system's algorithms were derived from robotaxi development work, covering urban and highway scenarios, CarNewsChina noted.

The cabin runs a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295P chip paired with Chery's Carmind AI model, displayed through a 15.6-inch 2.5K floating touchscreen with support for Apple CarPlay and Huawei HiCar. Top trims add CDC electromagnetic damping and IAS air suspension, CarNewsChina reported.

None of the ADAS claims have been independently validated outside China. The Falcon system's behaviour on European road infrastructure different lane markings, signage conventions, mapping data is an open question. Chery does have some European safety credibility: the Tiggo 8 earned a five-star Euro NCAP rating in October 2025, Chery International confirmed. That result covers passive safety, not autonomous driving performance, and it applies to a different vehicle. The ES itself has not been submitted for Euro NCAP testing.

The sensor and compute specifications are verifiable. Whether the software running on them performs reliably on European roads is not.

Weak home sales and a surprisingly small boot

China's sales data raises questions the spec sheet doesn't answer. The ES peaked at 2,228 deliveries in June 2025, dropped to 557 in September, fell to 147 in March 2026, and recorded just 31 units in April 2026 the month before the major 2026 update was announced, CarNewsChina reported. The available data doesn't explain the trajectory. It could reflect buyers holding off ahead of the 2026 refresh, a mismatch with what the segment demands at that price, or something else. What it shows is that strong specifications have not translated into consistent demand even in the market that knows the car best.

The practicality numbers add a separate dimension. The ES measures 4.95 metres long, 1.98 metres wide, and sits on a 3-metre wheelbase. Its boot holds 396 litres. The Renault Mégane E-Tech, a considerably shorter car, offers 440 litres; the Cupra Born hatchback offers 385 litres, 32cars noted. For European family buyers evaluating a near-five-metre vehicle, the gap between footprint and usable cargo space is the kind of detail that tends to surface at dealerships rather than on spec sheets.

Taken together, the sales trajectory and the boot measurement suggest a car optimised for specification appeal rather than broad usability. That may limit its commercial ceiling in Europe, where practicality expectations for vehicles this size are well established.

What would change the picture before Spain

The Exlantix ES is a Chery premium electric sedan with a credible hardware story. 800V architecture, dual Nvidia compute, LiDAR, and an estimated 500-plus km of realistic European range in a package priced under $38,000 in China is a combination that Western rivals have not matched at equivalent price points, based on CarNewsChina's pricing data. The gap is real, even before accounting for the price adjustment between China and Europe.

Four things would meaningfully shift the assessment before the Spain launch: an official WLTP figure clearing 550 km for the large-battery configuration; European pricing that undercuts comparable Tesla and Genesis options; Euro NCAP results for the ES itself; and confirmation of markets beyond Spain, which would signal that Chery is treating Europe as a real commercial target rather than a test bed.

Until those data points exist, the Exlantix ES EV is a car worth tracking closely and one no European buyer can yet properly evaluate.
