The Motorola Talkabout walkie-talkie allows you to select between 22 channels. The Talkabout also allows you to set an interference elimination code that reduces static and noise on the line. All the radios need to be on the same channel and interference eliminator code to communicate. Some Talkabouts let you scan for available channels using a monitor button, rather than cycling through them one at a time.
Press the "Menu" button on the face of the Talkabout walkie-talkie. The current channel flashes on the screen.
Press the "+" or "-" button to change the channel.
Press the "PTT" button to save the channel setting.
Change the interference eliminator code the same way you change the channel. Press the "Memu" button until the code starts to flash and press "+" or "-" to change the code. Press "PTT" to confirm.
To scan for active channels, set the interference elimination code to 0 to scan all channels, or 1 through 38 to skip channel 0. Press and release the "Mon" button to start the scan. When you hear audio from the speaker, press "PTT" to set the channel. Press "+" or "-" on the T4900 to skip to the next channel.
Set the interference eliminator code to 0 when communicating with other radios that don't use the code.
