Gateway computer laptops are equipped with special function keys on the keyboard that enable the user to increase or decrease screen brightness on the built-in LCD panel in increments. In dim lighting conditions it can be useful to brighten the screen for easier viewing, while decreasing the brightness can help in reading text on the screen in direct lighting conditions, such as using the laptop outdoors on a sunny day. The adjustment takes only a few seconds.
Step 1
Press and hold the "Fn" key in the lower left corner of the Gateway's keyboard. It is the first key on the left.

Step 2
Press the up arrow key in the lower right corner of the keyboard to increase screen brightness. The key is printed with a sunburst icon. Holding the key will increase brightness to the maximum setting. Pressing and releasing the key will increase brightness in smaller increments.
Step 3
Press the down arrow key in the lower right corner of the keyboard to dim the screen. The key is printed with a sunburst silhouette.
