How to Connect a Blu Ray Player to a Computer Monitor

By Bryan Roberts

Blu-ray players transmit information from high-definition Blu-ray discs and display the resultant signal on a television screen. Since the Blu-ray player is a high-definition (HD) device, it works best when connected to a high-definition television. If you do not have such a television, you can connect the Blu-Ray player to a computer monitor by making use of a special adapter cable.

Things You'll Need

  • HDMI-to-VGA adapter cable
  • RCA audio cables
  • Audio device (stereo, television, etc.)

Step 1

Connect the HDMI end of your HDMI-to-VGA cable to the HDMI port on your Blu-ray player.

Step 2

Connect the VGA end of the HDMI-to-VGA cable to the VGA port on the back of your computer monitor.

Step 3

Connect one end of your RCA (red and white) audio cables to the RCA ports on your Blu-ray player.

Step 4

Connect the other end of your RCA audio cables to the RCA input ports on your audio device. This device can be a stereo, television or any other device with RCA ports that can transmit audio.

Step 5

Turn your computer monitor, Blu-ray player and audio device on. The computer monitor will now transmit the visual signal from your Blu-ray player, and the audio device will transmit the player's audio signal.
