Mediacom provides cable television, phone and Internet service to 23 U.S. states. If you are in the service area, you can obtain Internet services from the company. When using the Mediacom Internet connection, you have a router provided for the computer, however if you have changed the placement of the Internet connection or have recently disconnected your router, you need to know how the router connects to your computer.

Step

Find the Ethernet cable running from the wall outlet. Connect this cable into the "Internet" port on the back side of the Mediacom router.

Step

Connect a second Ethernet cable into one of the numbered ports above the "Internet" port. The ports above the "Internet" connection port are, essentially, out ports that send the Internet signal to other devices, such as your computer.

Step

Plug the other end of the Ethernet cable into the "Ethernet" port on the back of your computer. When the cable is properly inserted into the computer, a green light on the router blinks on.

Step

Look on the bottom of the Mediacom router. If this is the first time the router has been used, you need to activate it. An HTTP address will be listed there. Launch your Internet browser and type this HTTP address into the search bar. An activation screen will load.

Step

Type in a new username and password, then select whether you are using it with a wireless router. Adjust any other settings you see fit and click "OK." This activates the Mediacom router and you can now begin accessing the Internet.
