AVI, which stands for Audio Video Interleave, is a video file format used by Microsoft on their Windows multimedia framework. The video format was developed in 1992 and lacks some of the features found in newer video formats such as Motion JPEG (MJPEG). Some video players may require video to be in the format of MJPEG before it will play. If you have an AVI file, you will need to use a video converter to convert the file into MJPEG. Avidemux is a free video auditor that can be used to convert video files.
Download and install Avidemux freeware. Once installation has completed, launch the program.
Click "File" from the top menu and select "Open." Locate your AVI video file and click "Open."
Edit Video, Audio, and Format settings in the left navigation of Avidmux application window. Select "MJPEG (lavc)" from the dropdown list under Video. Select "Copy" from the dropdown list under Audio. Select "AVI" from the dropdown list under Format.
Save the file. Click the "Save" button from the top menu. Provide a name for your new video file and click "Save." Your AVI file has now been converted to a Motion JPEG (.mjpeg).
