The PBP file is a file used to update the firmware in a Sony PSP (PlayStation Portable). The data stored in a PBP file is stored as an image and can only be used with the PSP. Converting the PBP image file to a standard image file, such as Bin or ISO, allows you to open the PBP file on your computer as a Bin or ISO file. You will also be able to store and boot the PBP file, as a Bin or ISO file, through other storage mediums, such as CDs and DVDs.
Turn on your computer and click the "Start" menu. Click on "Computer" and search for the folder that contains the PBP file using the search box in the top-right corner of the folder. Open the folder and select "Tools" from the top toolbar.
Open "Folder Options" and click on the "View" tab. In the menu, locate "Hide extensions for known file types" and remove the check in the box next to it. Click "OK" to close the "Folder Options" window and save the changes.
Right-click the PBP file and select "Rename." Erase PBP and type in ISO or Bin, depending on which one you want to convert the PBP file to.
Click "Yes" in the warning message that displays reading, "If you change a file name extension, the file might become unusable. Are you sure you want to change it?"
If you do not know the name or location of the PBP file, complete Steps 1 and 2, apart from the search, and revert to "Computer" and perform a search for "PBP." This will reveal the PBP file(s) that are stored on your computer.
This conversion does not permanently change the PBP file to ISO or Bin. If the PBP file does not work for any reason as an ISO or Bin file, you can always convert it back to PBP with the same method you used to convert it to ISO or Bin.
