How to Convert VBS to JS

By Amy Scott

VBS, or VBScript, short for "Visual Basic Scripting," was created by Microsoft as a scripting language intended for use with its products. Because VBS was made to work only with Microsoft products, VBS does not work in any browser other than Internet Explorer. For this reason, developers seeking cross-browser compatibility may convert VBS to JS, or "JavaScript," a much more widely used and compatible scripting language. This can be done using ScriptConverter, a free online tool.

Step 1

Open a Web browser and go to

Step 2

Click on the "Try ScriptConverter" link at the top of the page.

Step 3

Click the "Clear" button at the bottom left side of the page to clear the demo code.

Step 4

Paste or type in your VBS script on the left pane.

Step 5

Click the "Convert!" button at the bottom middle of the page.

Step 6

Click the "Copy" button on the right side of the page to copy your newly converted JS script to your clipboard. Paste it in the code of your website where you would like it to appear.
