Your Mac computer comes with an installed application that allows you to make banners. Whether you require a decoration for a party or need a large sign, use the AppleWorks program available on your Mac OS 9 and early Mac OS X systems, or opt for the Pages program, which is included in your iWorks application on a newer computer. Using the available program in your "Applications" folder, create a free banner on your Mac.
Start your AppleWorks program and click the "Templates" tab in the "Starting Points" dialog window. Select the "Banner" template to open this design in the workspace.
Click the "File" menu and select the "Page Setup" option. Set the print orientation to a horizontal alignment so that banner prints correctly.
Replace the default graphics by clicking the "Insert" option under the "File" menu. Alternately, click the images and drag them to the desired areas on the banner.
Double-click the text to type in the content you want and select this entry. Click the "Font," "Size," "Style" and/or "Text Color" buttons under the "Format" menu to apply your style choices.
Select the "Fill formatting" button on the toolbar and click the "Color palette," "Pattern palette," "Wallpaper palette," "Gradient palette," "Line weight palette" and/or "Arrow palette" buttons to format your banner's background.
Click the "File" menu and choose the "Save As" option to save your banner.
Create a new "Blank" file in your Pages application.
Select the "Page Setup" option under the "File" menu and choose a size in the "Paper Size" drop-down menu. Click the horizontal button and then click the "OK" button when done. These settings create the measurements of your banner when it prints out.
Select the "Shapes" title under the "Insert" menu and then click on the preferred shape, such as "Rounded Rectangle," in the drop-down list. Click a spot on the form and drag it to the size that you want.
Click "Show Inspector" under the "View" menu and select the "Graphic Inspector" button on the "Inspector" window. Choose a background color using the "Fill" drop-down menu and color picker. Select the "Stroke" menu to specify an outline for your banner and use the "Shadow" and "Opacity" menus to apply drop-shadow and see-through enhancements.
Click the banner and type in the desired text. In the "Inspector" window, click the "Text Inspector" button to format the characteristics, including font size and color.
Click the "Insert" menu and then click the "Choose" title to insert your digital picture. Select a corner on the graphic and drag it to the size that you want.
Click the "Save As" option under the "File" menu to save your work.
