How to Do Polls on Facebook

By Elizabeth Falwell

Although the social networking website Facebook does not offer you a way to create polls, the site hosts a third-party application that does. The application called simply "Poll" lets you create your own poll question and potential answers; the application then lets you post your new poll directly to your Facebook profile. The choice of poll question -- and the list of potential answers -- can be anything you want, from a poll about your next vacation destination to what you should name your next child.

Step 1

Log in to your Facebook account by typing your email address and password.

Step 2

Type "Poll" into the search box at the top of your Facebook home page.

Step 3

Select the application titled "Poll" from the list of options; this will direct you to the application's page.

Step 4

Click on the "Go To App" button at the top of the application's page. Click "Accept" when prompted to grant the application permission to access your profile.

Step 5

Fill out the form on the next page. This form includes information about your poll, including the question you want to ask and the potential list of answers respondents can choose from.

Step 6

Add any desired upgraded features to your poll. These premium features include the option of hiding advertisements and paying for votes; each feature costs $9. The basic polling feature is free.

Step 7

Press the "Create Poll" button when you are finished. You'll have the option of publishing your poll on your wall at this time.

Tips & Warnings

  • To edit your poll, view responses or delete it, click on the "My Polls" link inside the "Poll" application page.
  • By accepting the "Poll" application, you give the application permission to access information on your Facebook profile.
