How to Enable the NumLock Button on a Laptop

By Michelle Varsallona

On some laptops it may be difficult to locate and activate the “Num Lock” key. Depending on the laptop, it may be hidden as a function where you have to press two keys. Most of the time, a laptop keyboard is just like a full desktop computer keyboard and it has a “Num Lock” key on it. Most people do not realize the “Num Lock” key is on their laptop keyboard because it barely serves a purpose without a full numeric keypad.

Step 1

Press the “Num Lock” key on the laptop at the top, right of the keyboard.

Step 2

Press the “Num Lock” key and the “Fn” key simultaneously if the above does not work.

Step 3

Press “Fn” and “F11” simultaneously on the keyboard to activate the “Num Lock” function. Some laptops, like Toshiba, do have a “Num Lock” key. The shortcut for G3 Mac laptops it is “F5,” and on G4 Mac laptops it is “F6.”
