How to Find a Printer's IP Address in a Mac

By K.C. Winslow

The Internet Protocol address of an electronic device identifies where the device is on a network, according to the Queensland Media Group. Mac computers use the CUPS Unix Printing System to manage printing tasks. This system is integrated with the printer menu in OS X and provides access to information like the printer’s IP Address. Only a networked printer or a printer server will have an IP address.

Step 01

Go to the “Apple” menu and select the “System Preferences” option. Click “Print & Fax” from the menu.

Step 11

Select the printer from the menu on the left and press the “Open Print Queue” button.

Step 21

Open the “Printer” menu at the top of the screen and select “Print Test Page.”

Step 31

Go to the “Device URI” on the CUPS text page and look towards the end of the string. The IP address appears after “ip=.”
