How to Hook Up Cable TV

By J. Anthony Cooley

If you already have your cable installed but want to rearrange your furniture or your equipment, you can waste money and time by having the cable company come out or you can hook up your own TV.

Things You'll Need

  • Coaxial cable wires, 2

Step 1

Plug one end of the coaxial cable wire into the cable wall outlet and plug the other end of the coaxial cable into the RF connector of the TV. The RF connector is labeled "Antenna In." This step only applies if you are hooking up cable without a cable box. Skip to the next step if you are hooking cable to a cable box.

Step 2

Plug one end of the coaxial cable wire into the cable wall outlet and plug the other end of the coaxial cable into the RF connector of the cable box labeled "Antenna In."

Step 3

Plug the other coaxial cable wire into the RF connector on the cable box labeled "Cable Out." Plug the other end of the second cable into the RF connector on the TV labeled "Antenna In."

Step 4

Plug the electrical cord of the cable box into the electrical wall outlet. Turn the TV and cable box on. The TV will display the cable channels from either channel 3 or 4. Once the cable is being displayed from the TV, change the cable channels from the cable box and not from the TV.
