How to Make a 'Follow' Button on Blogger

By Jason Artman

All blogs on Google's Blogger service display navigation bar at the top of the page that lets visitors access certain functions quickly such as searching Blogger for specific content or following a favorite blog. If you worry that first-time readers might not see the "Follow" link at the top of the page, however, you can also place a button in the sidebar of your blog. Install a new gadget to display your blog's current followers and to give new visitors an opportunity to follow you or subscribe by email.

Step 1

Navigate to your Blogger.com dashboard in a Web browser, typing your Google account address and password to continue if prompted.

Step 2

Click the "Design" link under the title of the blog that you would like to display a "Follow" button on. This brings you to a new page that shows your blog's design template.

Step 3

Click one of the "Add a Gadget" links on the right side of the page to add the "Follow" button to your sidebar. You can also place the button in a different area by clicking one of the other "Add a Gadget" links on the design template. This opens a new window displaying a list of the gadgets you can install.

Step 4

Click the plus sign next to the "Follow by Email" gadget to display a link in the sidebar that readers can use to follow your blog by email. Alternatively, click the plus sign next to the "Followers" gadget to display a list of your blog's followers as well as a "Join This Site" button that readers can click to follow you via Google Friend Connect. You can also add both gadgets by clicking the "Add a Gadget" link twice.

Step 5

Click the orange "Save" button at the top of the design template page.
