Use Microsoft Visio 2010 to create a data relationship in Visio.

Microsoft Visio is an effective tool for creating data models, Unified Modeling Language (UML) and database diagrams. Visio automatically links up different data objects and elements, as different types of links represent relationships between data objects. Relationship links can signify if a data object is dependent or has dependencies when linked to other data objects. In Visio, you can create a functional dependency between two data objects.

Step 1

Open Microsoft Visio 2010. Click on the File tab. Select "New." Select the software database model template icon from the center window. Next, select the "UML" model icon.

Step 2

Right click on the "Shapes" menu on the left side of the screen. Select the "UML Component" shape menu.

Step 3

Right click on the "Node" icon and drag the icon over to the drawing area. Repeat the same process for a second "Node" icon.

Step 4

Right click on the "dependency" icon in the "Shapes" menu. Drag the dependency icon to the drawn area. Place the dependency line next to one of the node boxes.

Step 5

Place the dependency line next to one of the node boxes. The dependency line will connect to that box.

Step 6

Move the arrow part of the dependency line to the second node box. A functional dependency is now represented by dependency line.
