How to Set Up a PC Microphone

By Ainsley Patterson

Having a microphone connected to your PC can be great if you want to voice chat with friends or record your own music. But sometimes when hooking up a new device to your computer, you might find yourself confused. Fortunately, connecting a microphone to your PC is straightforward.

Step 1

Turn the computer around so you can see the back. Locate the input jack, which is pink or red; this is the microphone jack for your computer. Plug the microphone into this jack and turn your tower back around.

Step 2

Click on the "Start" button, go to "Control Panel," then click "Sound." Click on the "Recording" tab, highlight your microphone and click the "Configure" button. Here you can set various options for the microphone and test it.

Step 3

Click "Start," then "All Programs," then "Accessories," then "Sound Recorder." Click the "Start Recording" and speak into the microphone.
