Free Download Manager, also known by its abbreviation FDM, is an Internet speed accelerator, which gives you increased speed when downloading something off the Internet. The application has three modes: Light, Medium and Heavy. These modes determine the amount of bandwidth used by FDM. For instance, if you select "Light," the download will take a long time to finish, as FDM will not be using the complete bandwidth. To ensure maximum download speed, your choice should be "Heavy Mode" for maximum usage of bandwidth and shortest download time.

Step 2

Go to "Options" from the top menu.

Step 3

Click the "Network" tab.

Step 4

Set the "Traffic usage mode" as "Heavy Mode" instead of Light or Medium.

Step 5

Make sure that "Restriction of Traffic" is not enabled, which means you should select "Unlimited KB/s" under "Restriction of Traffic."

By default, FDM is set to “Medium Mode,” so the user is also able to browse and do other activities on the web. If you choose “Heavy Mode,” you will not be able to use the Internet for other activities, as the Internet speed will become very slow.
