My Vizio Remote Won't Work

By Stephanie Sigafoos

A television remote is perhaps one of the most essential parts of any home entertainment system, because it can control multiple components, including TVs, DVRs and surround sound speakers. Unfortunately, problems can arise with any battery-operated gadget, including remote controls. Fortunately, there are steps you can take to get your TV remote working again. VIZIO customers, however, continue to report problems with the remote controls that operate their TVs.

Things You'll Need

  • VIZIO remote control
  • Fresh batteries

Step 1

Insert two new AA batteries into the remote control. Make sure to match the plus (+) and minus (-) symbols on the batteries with the (+) and (-) symbols inside the battery compartment before re-attaching the battery cover.

Step 2

Clear all obstructions in front of the product you are trying to control, such as a TV, so that the remote control sensor can transmit the command within an effective range. According to VIZIO, the effective range of most remote controls is approximately 26 feet (8 meters) from the front of the receiver window, about 13 feet (4 meters) when 30° to the left and right, 20° up and down.

Step 3

Press the correct button on the remote to select the television (TV), audiovisual (AV), component (YPbPr) or HDMI input.

Step 4

Perform a hard reset of the remote if the TV is unresponsive to the remote control signal. To do this, remove the batteries from the remote and unplug the TV for at least five minutes. Press down on all the buttons on the remote, then replace the batteries and hit the "Power" button.

Step 5

Consult VIZIO's product support if problems with the remote control persist. VIZIO can be contacted through its website, which includes an online chat option, or by e-mail or telephone.
