The Windows Experience Index is a utility that is built into computers running the Windows operating system that will tell you the speed of several different aspects of your machine. This one test will run speed calculations on your processor, your hard drive, your random access memory and your graphics card. You will also be given a rating that indicates how well your computer is able to run your operating system.

Click "Start."

Click "Computer."

Click "System Properties."

Click the "Windows Experience Index" link.

Click "Re-run the assessment." The Windows operating system will perform all of the speed tests on your various pieces of hardware, which will take a few minutes to complete. The table at the top of the screen will then have an accurate readout of the speed of the various components in your computer.
