Instagram wants in on the TikTok craze, so it's launching its own version of the popular short-form video app.
The feature is called Reels, and it will let users record and edit 15-second video clips that can either be set to music or audio can be reused from someone else's video.
Reels will be available within Instagram Stories, along with all the other filters and special features. Unless a user posts the Reels Story to their main feed, the videos will disappear after 24 hours, just as regular Stories do.
NBC News reported that Instagram will add a tab at the bottom of the screen where users can scroll through all the videos—similar to how the endless scrolling is done on TikTok.
Reels is supposed to launch sometime in "early August," according to Techcrunch, which might be perfect timing if the White House administration ends up banning TikTok in the U.S. over security concerns.
