Motorola's Moto Snap Wireless Charger debuted at IFA 2026 in Berlin last week, a magnetic charging puck that snaps onto the back of compatible phones and delivers up to 25W to devices that support the Qi2.2 standard (Notebookcheck). On select Motorola phones running the company's own proprietary protocol, that ceiling climbs to 30W (Notebookcheck; Android Authority). Android Authority describes the accessory as Motorola's answer to Apple's MagSafe (Android Authority).

The charger is heading to "selected markets" across Europe, the Middle East, Latin America, and Asia Pacific over the coming weeks. It is not, however, coming to the United States, according to The Verge. For US readers, the accessory isn't currently available through official channels.

For everyone else, the Moto Snap raises a more useful question: what speed will it actually deliver to the phone already in your pocket, and how much of what Motorola is promising has been confirmed independently rather than just claimed.

Notebookcheck reports the charger costs €39, roughly $50, and ships with a 1.5-meter braided USB-C cable in the box (Notebookcheck). The Verge's figure is close but not identical: £39.99 in the UK and €39.99 in the eurozone (The Verge). Both land around the same $50 mark, though the two outlets list slightly different prices.

Availability follows a similarly loose pattern. Notebookcheck describes the rollout window only as "the coming weeks" for its initial markets, without naming a specific on-sale date. That tracks with Android Authority's report from the unveiling, which noted that pricing and availability hadn't been announced when the charger was shown on stage, meaning the figures above only surfaced after the initial reveal (Android Authority).

The Verge also notes that Motorola's Edge 70 Max phone never launched in the US, a pattern that now extends to the charger, without an explanation from Motorola on either front (The Verge).

Motorola's numbers break into two confirmed tiers. Phones that support the Qi2 25W standard, which Motorola brands as Qi2.2, get up to 25W. Select Motorola phones using the company's own proprietary protocol get up to 30W (Notebookcheck). Those are the only two speed figures Motorola has published for the Moto Snap.

The jump to 25W is meaningful on paper. The Wireless Power Consortium, which oversees the Qi standard, says its Qi2 25W spec has been tested to charge a phone from 0% to 50% in about 30 minutes, a real leap over the 15W ceiling of the original Qi2 spec that arrived in late 2023 (ChargeWithQi). That's a claim about what Qi2 25W hardware can do in general, not a measurement of the Moto Snap charger itself.

Magnets do more here than hold the phone in place. Qi2's Magnetic Power Profile, introduced alongside Qi 2.0 in 2023, locks in coil alignment between charger and phone, the same alignment a flat charging pad only achieves if the phone happens to sit dead-center on it (GRL Platform Solutions). Neither report identifies which Motorola phones actually qualify for the 30W tier. Buyers with anything short of a flagship-class Motorola device, or a confirmed Qi2 25W-certified phone from another brand, won't know their real charging speed until that information surfaces.

Design, materials, and built-in safeguards

Motorola's safety claims for the Moto Snap line up with that design intent, though they come from Motorola and the WPC's general specification, not from independent testing of this particular unit.

What the launch confirms, and what's still unknown

Availability is confirmed only for Europe, the Middle East, Latin America, and Asia Pacific over the coming weeks, with no official purchase route in the US so far. Anyone with a confirmed 30W-tier Motorola phone, or a certified Qi2 25W device from another brand, gets a documented speed boost over standard Qi2. Anyone with an older 15W Qi2 phone, a standard Qi phone, or a device Motorola hasn't named falls into a gap the cited reports simply don't address.

The launch also lands at a specific moment for the standard behind it. The Verge describes Android's broader Qi2 rollout as moving at a "glacial pace," a characterization aimed at the ecosystem generally rather than the Moto Snap specifically. The WPC, meanwhile, says Qi2 was already running on more than 1.5 billion certified devices, transmitters, and receivers worldwide within its first year on the market, a figure spanning all Qi2 hardware broadly rather than confirming how many phones actually support the newer 25W tier (ChargeWithQi).

That's the gap worth watching: a standard with a lot of hardware behind it, a charger with real numbers on its spec sheet, and no independent measurement yet of what either delivers in practice. The supplied reports don't include independent charge-time or heat testing of the Moto Snap, and they don't establish whether this specific charger has completed Qi2 25W certification.
