Deals on Desktops and Laptops Abound
In the market for a new computer? Big-name vendors are offering big-time deals.
When you think of what’s hot in July, you probably think of the weather—not deals on computers. But apparently, you should think twice. We found plenty of deals that prove hot prices and hot weather can go hand in hand.
Available at Amazon
Amazon Prime Day may be over, but the deals are lingering. The retail giant is offering a great price on a certified refurbished Toshiba Chromebook 2: $221. (New versions are available at this price through Amazon’s third-party sellers.) The same model—featuring a 13.3-inch screen, 4GB of RAM, and a 16GB solid-state drive– sells for $333 at Staples.

Big Names on Sale
Hewlett-Packard is offering as much as 50 percent off some of its products as part of its clearance and overstock sale—and the company is throwing in free shipping, too. Here are a few of the best deals we spotted.
HP Pavilion 15z: HP says this laptop is a best seller; and at a price of just $320—that’s $260 off its $580 list price—we can see why. It runs Windows 10 Home, and sports an AMD Dual-Core A9 APU, a 15.6-inch display, 8GB of memory, and a 1TB hard drive. Upgrading to a touchscreen adds $40 to the price.
HP Envy Phoenix 850qe Desktop: HP is offering off this PC at a $400 reduction, knocking its base price from $1,300 down to $900. That money gets you Windows 10 Home, a fourth-generation Intel Core i7 processor, 16GB of RAM, and a 2TB hard drive. No display is included.
Lenovo is getting in on the action, too, offering products at discounts of up to 36 percent. Here are a few deals to keep an eye out for.
Lenovo Ideapad Y700: This 14-inch gaming notebook is on sale for $730, which is $320 below its $1,050 list price. (The company had been offering a $700 configuration, but that model is currently out of stock.) For $729, you get Windows 10, a sixth-generation Intel Core i5 processor, 8GB of RAM, and a 1TB hard drive.
Dell Black Friday in July
Dell is calling its summertime promotion "Black Friday in July," and it’s easy to see why: Some of the discounts are among the steepest you’ll see outside the holiday shopping season. Dell’s promotion runs through Thursday, July 21, but then it’s over—so you don’t have a lot of time. Here are a few of the best deals we found.
Dell XPS 8900 Special Edition: We called this desktop "an affordable way to get started with VR" when Dell offered it at $1,299. Now Dell has cut the price to $1,000, a savings of $400 off the original $1,400 list price. The machine comes with Windows 10, plus 16GB of memory, a 2TB hard drive, and a sixth-generation Intel Core i7 processor.

Dell is throwing in free shipping as part of this sale, and it is offering discounts on various products, including desktops, laptops, TVs, and accessories. The company is also featuring daily "Doorbusters"—pricing with steep discounts, beginning in the morning and lasting until the inventory is gone. So what are you waiting for? It’s time to start shopping!
