Hitachi Ultravision Troubleshooting

Loose cable connections, having the wrong operating mode setting and incorrect picture settings are a few common reasons why a Hitachi UltraVision HDTV monitor may fail to work properly. Many issues can be resolved by understanding the signals the monitor gives when things go wrong. For example, both the "Indicating Lamp" and "Illuminating Lamp" display different colors when the monitor is on, off or in "System Standby" mode. Determine the appropriate troubleshooting steps by understanding the UltraVision's code -- a silent speech of lamp lights and screen messages.

Step 1

Check the power cord and all of the cables for secure connections. A "No Sync. Signal" message may also appear on the screen when cables are loose or the power is not on. If each connection is secure and the power is on, turn the "Power Main Switch" off. Wait for 5 minutes and then press and hold down the "Reset" button on the control panel for 2 seconds.

Step 2

Check the "Main Power Switch" and verify that it is turned on. Locate the "Indicating Lamp" to the right of the "Main Power Switch" and the "Illumination Lamp" in the center, bottom part of the monitor. The "Indicating Lamp" should show a "Green" color when the monitor is on; the "Illumination Lamp" should turn "Blue." If the "Indicating Lamp" is "Red," it is in "System Standby mode." In this case, the "Illumination Lamp" will be off and absent of color.

Step 3

Turn off "System Standby" mode. Press the "Menu" button, select "Function" and select "HDMI Control." Select "System Standby" and then select "Off." Press "Exit" to close out of the menu.

Step 4

Verify that the monitor is not in "Video Power Save" mode. Check that the input selection matches the connection terminal and the power to connected external equipment is turned on. Turn the "Video Power Save" off if the message: "Power Save," appears on the screen. Note that the "Indicating Lamp" will be an "Orange" color. To turn "Video Power Save" off, press the "Menu" button and then select "Setup." Press the "OK" button, select "Video Power Save" and press "Off." Press "Exit" to close out of the menu.

Step 5

Adjust the picture values if the picture seems incorrect. Press the "Menu" button on the remote control and then press the up and down arrow keys and select "Picture Mode," "Contrast," "Brightness," "Color," "Sharpness," "Tint," "Color Temperature" or "Back Light." Press the left and right arrows keys to make the adjustments for each category. Press "OK" in each category where changes were made to save the new settings. Press "Exit" to close out of the menu.

Step 6

Check the batteries in the remote control for polarity (negative and positive ends must be installed correctly). If the batteries are low, replace both batteries at the same time.

Step 7

Check the cable for a secure connection to the monitor if the message: "Invalid Scan Freq.," appears on the screen. The cable may also be incompatible with the monitor. Replace the cable if all connections are secure and the message does not disappear.

Tips & Warnings

  • At times "Auto Adjust" message may appear on the screen. This setup operation automatically adjusts the horizontal and vertical positions, horizontal clock (minimizes vertical stripes) and clock phase (minimizes letter blurring an horizontal stripes). Access these options manually if the auto adjustment does not bring the desired results on the screen. Press the "Menu" button and then press "Setup." Make the necessary adjustments or press "Reset" to set each item to its factory defaults. Press "Exit" to close out of the menu.
