Microsoft Word 2003 is a word processor, but it contains a host of simple graphic editing options, features and effects that can improve your document. The Text Box option allows you to insert a standard box in which you can input text. This is helpful if you want to set an excerpt apart from other text. Add a background color to your text box to enhance the look of it on the page.
Open the document containing the text box you want to edit. Click the text box to select it.
Click the arrow next to "Fill Color" on the Drawing toolbar. Some background color options will appear.
Click the color you want. It will load to the background of your text box.
