Take advantage of the System Information panel on your Windows 8.1 computer to locate your computer's hardware and software specifications. The System Information panel lists specs for all elements of your computer, including data about your processor, memory and hard drive.

Press "Windows-I" while viewing the Start screen to open the Settings panel. Select "Tiles" to open your PC's Tiles settings panel and toggle the switch under the Show Administrative Tools heading to the On position. Return to the Start screen and choose the "System Information" tile to open the System Information window. In the System Information window you can view your computer's memory, processor, operating system and hard drive specs. Use your mouse to highlight the text you want to copy, and then press "Ctrl-C" to copy the information to your clipboard. Switch to the location where you want to paste the specs and press "Ctrl-V" to paste them there.

You can also open the System Information window using the Search charm. Swipe your mouse to the top-right corner of your screen, click the Search charm and enter "System." Click "System" on the list of search results to launch the System Information window.

Locate Advanced System Specs and Determine Your Version of Windows 8.1

If you're looking for more in-depth information about your computer's specs, open the System Information window again and this time click on the headings in the left pane. Specs are grouped by technology type.

To determine which exact version of Windows 8.1 is running on your computer, click the "Desktop" tile on the Start screen, press "Windows-I" to open the Settings panel, and then choose "PC info." Your version of Windows 8.1 is displayed next to the System Type heading. As with other specifications, you can copy and paste this information by highlighting the text and pressing "Ctrl-C" and then pressing "Ctrl-V" on your keyboard where you want to paste the information.
