Papers ready to be scanned.

Your Hewlett-Packard (HP) scanner can not only scan photos, business cards, letters and other documents, the device is capable of scanning a document containing multiple pages and grouping the pages as one file on your computer. This capability is helpful if you have a multiple-page contract or letter you are scanning as an email or for saving on a disc. If your HP scanner has an Automatic Document Feeder (ADF), the multiple-page scanning process is simplified because you don't have to manually load the multiple sheets of paper.

Scanning Multiple Sheets Without a ADF

Open the scanner's lid. Place the first page of the document you want to scan print-side down on the scanner's glass.

Scanning Multiple Sheets With an ADF

Step 1

Place the document containing multiple pages print-side up in your HP scanner's ADF.

Step 2

Push the paper guides on each side of the ADF inward. The guides should be on the edge of the papers, but not too tight.

Step 3

Open the HP Director software by clicking on the program's name on the "All Programs" menu.

Step 4

You can also scan multiple-page documents with another scanning program other than HP Director. To activate the multiple-page capability, open the Solution Center (inside of the HP folder listed in the “All Programs” menu). Click on “Settings” after the program opens. Click “Scan Settings,” “Scan Preferences.” Click on the “Automatic” tab. Click on the “Prompt for Additional Scans from Glass/TMA” check box. Click “OK.” Close the open dialog box and launch the scanning program you want to use. You will be prompted for the next page of your multiple-page document.

Note: some non-HP scanning programs cannot process multiple-page documents.
