How Do You Make Something Fit the Width of the Page in Microsoft Word?

By William Nagel

Microsoft Word allows you to customize and adjust the page margins of your document to increase or decrease the amount of white space around the edges. If you want to stretch an image, text, or an inserted object across the full width of your document, you will need to reduce the margins of the page. Once the margins have been reduced, you can stretch the contents of your document across the full width of the page.

Step 1

Open the document that you want to adjust in Microsoft Word.

Step 2

Click the "Page Layout" tab in the Ribbon.

Step 3

Click the "Margins" button in the Ribbon. Select "Custom Margins" from the menu.

Step 4

Press the "Decrease" button on the left side of each margin adjustment box to set the "Top," "Bottom," "Left," and "Right," margins to "0.00." Click "OK" to apply the new margins to your page. The text in your document will automatically adjust to the new margin settings.

Step 5

Click on the object in your document to manually adjust its size. Select the small handle-shaped icons that appear on the edge of the object, and drag each one with the mouse cursor. Stretch your images and objects to the edges of the page.

Tips & Warnings

  • Some printers may not be able to print pages without margins; your printer may automatically add small margins to your page.
