How to Block Numbers on AT&T U-verse

By Andrew Tennyson

Determining who can call you and who knows you're calling gives you greater control over your smartphone. There are two ways to block numbers on your AT&T U-verse service: Call Blocking and Caller ID Blocking. Call Blocking prevents incoming calls to your phone from particular numbers, whereas Caller ID Blocking blocks your number from appearing on the phones you call. You can manage both features via the Manage My Phone Features section of the U-verse control panel.

Call Blocking

Step 1

Visit the MyAT&T Web page and log in to your account (link in Resources).

Step 2

Scroll to "Manage my plans & services" under the I Want To heading, and then select "Manage my phone features" to open the Phone Features page.

Step 3

Locate "Call Blocking" in the Call Filtering section, and then set it to "On."

Step 4

Enter the number you want to block in the Add Number field, and then click "Add" to add it to your Call Blocking list. Repeat this step for each number you want to add. You can add up to 20 numbers to your Call Blocking list.

Step 5

Click "Save" to save your list of blocked numbers.

Caller ID Blocking

Step 1

Visit the MyAT&T Web page and log in to your account (link in Resources).

Step 2

Scroll to "Manage my plans & services" under the I Want To heading, and then select "Manage my phone features" to open the Phone Features page.

Step 3

Select "Caller ID Blocking" in the Outgoing Calls section.

Step 4

Click the "On" radio button to enable Caller ID Blocking, and then click the "Save" button.

Tips & Warnings

  • People whose numbers are blocked will receive the following message when they attempt to call your number: "The number you dialed will not accept your call." Their call will then be terminated and they will not be able to leave a message.
  • After you enable call blocking for the first time via MyAT&T, you can toggle it on and off from your phone. Dial "*60#" to activate call blocking and "*80#" to disable it. The same principle applies to Caller ID Blocking. To disable Caller ID Blocking, dial "*82" before placing a call to make your number visible. If Caller ID Blocking is turned off, you can enable it for one call only by dialing "*67" before placing the call.
  • If you're receiving persistent calls from telemarketers, you can add your phone number to the federal government's Do Not Call list (link in Resources).
