How to Change a PNG to a PDF

Use a free or paid conversion tool to convert a Portable Network Graphic (PNG) file to a Portable Document Format (PDF) file. Adobe Acrobat is the most popular tool for working with PDF files, and there is a free trial so you can convert a PNG to a PDF for free. PDFCreator is a free software tool that allows you to manipulate PDF files and save your PNG as a PDF. All Microsoft Office products since 2007 allow you to save your PNG to PDF format.

Use Adobe Acrobat to Convert Your Image

Download a trial of Adobe Acrobat if you don't own the software. Adobe offers a free trial of Acrobat you can use to convert a PNG. Create an Adobe ID or sign in to your Adobe account. Click the Download Now button.

Click the Start Trial button to begin the 30-day free trial.

Step 3

Create PDF

Click File, Create and then PDF From File. Choose the PNG file you want to convert.

Warning

Your free trial will expire in 30 days. At that time, you will need to purchase Acrobat to continue converting images or use a different tool.

Adobe Acrobat can also be used to convert your PDF back into an image.

Open your PDF and choose Edit PDF. Right-click the image and choose Edit With Paint and choose to save as PNG.

Use PDFCreator to Convert Your Image

Download PDFCreator.

PDFCreator does not require you to run the application. Open the PNG in Microsoft Paint, click File and then click Print. In the printer settings, choose PDFCreator as the printer before pressing Print.

You can also create a PNG file from a PDF with this tool. Open the PDF and choose Print. Select PDFCreator as the printer. Choose PNG as the file type when saving.

Use Microsoft Word to Convert Your Image

Step 1

Open a blank Microsoft Word document.

Paste the PNG image into the Word document.

Click File and Print. From the Print menu, choose Adobe PDF as the printer.

Warning

To convert a PDF back to a PNG using a Microsoft Office product, you need to pay Adobe for this service. It is free to create a PDF from a Microsoft Office product but not to reverse it.

To reverse the process, open the PDF and click Export PDF.

In the drop-down menu for Convert To, choose Microsoft Word 97-2003 Document (*.doc).

Right-click the image in the Word document and choose Copy. Open Paint and choose Paste. Click File, Save as, and PNG picture.
