How to Connect to the iPhone With a Mac USB

By Perry Piekarski

In order to charge, back up and manage the data on your Apple iPhone, you need to connect it to your personal computer using an included USB cable. Connecting your iPhone to your Mac allows you to sync the iPhone with your iTunes library and make changes to the device while recharging its battery. Although syncing your iPhone to a Mac isn't necessary, it allows you to get the most out of your iPhone. This method works the same way for all models of the iPhone.

Things You'll Need

  • USB cable (included with iPhone)

Step 1

Power on your Apple Mac computer.

Step 2

Connect the USB end of the iPhone's USB cable to your Mac.

Step 3

Connect the other end of the USB cable to the charge port located on the bottom of your iPhone.

Tips & Warnings

  • In order to manage the data on your iPhone, you need to first download and Apple iTunes if you don't already have it (link in Resources).
  • If your computer doesn't recognize your Apple iPhone, disconnect the USB cable from the computer and try it on a different USB port.
