Apple's Pages desktop publishing software create files with the .pages file extension. These files cannot be opened outside of the Pages program, so if you want to share the files with someone else and they don't have the program, you must convert the file into something that can be opened on other computers. The Portable Document Format, or PDF, was created by Adobe because it can be shared easily -- and shared across computer system platforms. Pages files can be converted into PDFs.
Launch Apple Pages and open the .pages document you wish to convert into a PDF.
Click the "File" menu and select "Export."
Type in the desired file name and select the desired file location.
Click "Export" and the .pages document will be saved as a PDF.
