Copying the information contained in your operating system to CD can help to protect your system against the threat of data loss through viruses and hardware problems. You can do this by using the Backup utility in your OS to copy the operating system files on your computer to a single file, burning it to a CD you can keep in a safe location.
Click "Start." Open "Programs," "Accessories," "System Tools" and "Backup."
Click "Back up files and folders" and select "Let me choose what to back up."
Check the drive containing your operating system and select the desktop as the location to store your backup file.
Insert a blank CD. Select "Open Writable Folder." Drag-and-drop the backup file to the CD folder and press "Burn."
