A memory stick is a small device that can hold information, much like a small portable hard drive. You can use one to store everything from pictures and music to documents and saved game files. Downloading information from the computer to the memory stick is a relatively simple process if you have a basic understanding of how computer files work. Described are two ways that you can download files, by copy and paste or by direct sending.

Copy and Paste

Step 1

Plug the memory stick into the USB port on your computer.

Step 2

On the computer, locate and open the file folder that contains the files that you wish to open.

Step 3

Right-click the file you want to put on the memory stick and click "Copy."

Step 4

Click on the "My Computer" icon on the desktop and look for your memory stick. It will most likely be a secondary drive letter, such "D" or "E." Open the memory stick folder.

Step 5

Place your mouse over the opened memory stick folder and right-click your mouse. Hit the "Paste" button, and your files should begin to copy onto the memory stick. Before removing the memory stick, navigate back to the drive letter in the folder, right-click the drive letter and select "Eject." Wait until the eject process is complete before removing the drive.
