How to Export Songs From iTunes to a Thumb Drive

iTunes is a digital media player developed to run on both Mac and Windows operating systems. As a user of iTunes, you might have an intricate music library from which you desire to export or transfer songs onto a portable thumb drive without compromising your existing music library. You can transfer songs onto your thumb drive without any external third-party software by following a few easy steps.

Step 1

Create a new folder on your computer's desktop. This is the where you will copy music files from your iTunes library.

Open your iTunes music folder. This is usually found under "iTunes > iTunes music." From here, your library should be organized by artist.

Find the songs you want to export in your library. When you find a song, click "Edit > Copy." Make sure that you choose "Copy" and not "Cut." "Cut" will delete the song from the iTunes library.

Step 4

Open the folder you created on your desktop and click "Edit > Paste." The song will now be copied into the folder.

Step 5

Repeat the steps with all of the songs you want to add to your USB thumb drive.

Step 6

Plug your USB drive into your computer. Open the drive once it is recognized.

Step 7

Drag the folder of chosen music files from your desktop into your USB drive. The songs will be stored on your USB drive and your original iTunes library will not be changed.
