How to Forward & Take Off Forward for the Cox Phone Service

While Cox Communications may be best known for providing cable and Internet service, the company offers home telephone services as well. If you receive Cox phone services, you have access to several "extra" features including call forwarding. In fact, there are several forwarding features such as call forwarding when your line is busy, call forwarding if no one answers the phone, remote call forwarding and selective call forwarding.

Enable or Disable Standard Call Forwarding

Step

Pick up the handset of any connected telephone in your home. Make sure there is a dial tone.

Step

Dial "*72" on a touch-tone phone or "1172" on a rotary phone. Listen for the dial tone once more.

Step

Dial the number to which you want all calls forwarded. Wait for an answer, either by a person, voice mail or answering machine. If there is no answer, hang up the phone and repeat the steps. A confirmation tone signals that your calls are forwarded.

Step

Disable call forwarding when you want all calls directed back to your home phone. Pick up the handset of any connected telephone in your home. Make sure there is a dial tone.

Step

Dial "*73" on a touch-tone phone or "1173" on a rotary phone. A confirmation tone signals that your calls are no longer forwarded.

Enable or Disable Call Forwarding Busy

Step

Pick up the handset of any connected telephone in your home. Make sure there is a dial tone.

Step

Dial "*90" on a touch-tone phone or "1190" on a rotary phone. Listen for the dial tone once more.

Step

Dial the number to which you want calls forwarded when your phone is busy. Wait for an answer, either by a person, voice mail or answering machine. If there is no answer, hang up the phone and repeat the steps. A confirmation tone signals that your calls are forwarded.

Step

Disable call forwarding when you want all calls directed back to your home phone. Pick up the handset of any connected telephone in your home. Make sure there is a dial tone.

Dial "*91" on a touch-tone phone or "1191" on a rotary phone. A confirmation tone signals that your calls are no longer forwarded.

Enable or Disable Call Forwarding No Answer

Step

Pick up the handset of any connected telephone in your home. Make sure there is a dial tone.

Step

Dial "*92" on a touch-tone phone or "1192" on a rotary phone. Listen for the dial tone once more.

Step

Dial the number to which you want all calls forwarded if no one answers your home phone. Wait for an answer, either by a person, voice mail or answering machine. If there is no answer, hang up the phone and repeat the steps. A confirmation tone signals that your calls are forwarded.

Enable or Disable Remote Call Forwarding

Step

Dial the "Cox Mailbox Access Number" provided in your phone service user guide, from any phone. Enter your home phone number at the prompt.

Step

Enter your pin number and press the pound (#) key on the phone.

Step

Follow the steps in the first section to enable or disable standard call forwarding.

Enable or Disable Selective Call Forwarding

Step

Pick up the handset of any connected telephone in your home. Make sure there is a dial tone.

Step

Dial "*63" on a touch-tone phone or "1163" on a rotary phone. Press "3" to turn on selective call forwarding.

Step

Enter the phone number to which you want selected phone numbers forwarded.

Step

Press the pound key (#) and follow the prompts to add selected phone numbers to the forward list. Press the star key (*) and follow the prompts to remove numbers from the list.

Step

Disable selective call forwarding when you no longer want those calls forwarded. Dial "*63" on a touch-tone phone or "1163" on a rotary phone. Press "3" to turn off selective call forwarding.
