How to Identify Computrace on Your Laptop

Computrace Lojack for Laptops is a tracking application manufactured by Absolute Software. According to the company, large corporations mainly use Computrace for theft recovery and for asset management. The software is now embedded in the firmware of certain computers manufactured by some of the larger corporations such as Dell, Hewlett Packard, Panasonic and Toshiba, among others. Finding out if Computrace LoJack is running on your computer takes just a few steps.


Step 1

Press "Ctrl+Shift+Esc." This will bring up Windows Task Manager.

Click the "Services" tab. There you will see a long list of services. Click "Name" to alphabetize the list.


Step 3

Scroll down the list, looking for rpcnet.exe under the Name column and Computrace next to it in the Description column. Finding this exact entry means that Computrace LoJack is installed and running on your computer.
