A ring tone is what you hear when someone calls you. A ringback tone is what your callers hear when they call you. Specifically, rather than hearing the standard dial calling trill, your callers will simply be told that they will listen to music until you either pick up or the call goes to your voice mail. While there may be free ways to create or download ringback tones and install them on your Verizon phone, the easiest and most reliable way is to use the media tools provided by Verizon. To download and install ringtones and ringback tones directly to your cell phone, there are steps recommended by Verizon's V Cast Media Manager.
Using Tones Deluxe
Using your Verizon phone, download from the Media Center the "Verizon Wireless Tones Deluxe" application, then install it.
Go to your phone's menu and click on the Media Center. Select "Music & Tones" from the Media Center menu.
Click on "Get New Ringtones." There is no option at this point to get ringback tones, but this section of the Media Center will later allow you to download ringback tones.
Click on "Verizon Wireless Tones Deluxe."
Pick a music genre from the menu, such as rock or jazz. Pick the group or song you want.
Make sure you see the option to purchase as a ringback tone. Note that some Tones Deluxe song choices only allow you to install ring tones, not ringback tones.
Preview the song to make sure it is what you want, then click "Purchase." Tones Deluxe will automatically download and install the song on your Verizon cell phone.
To make things easier, you can download the free V Cast Media Manager software to your PC or Mac and manage all your ring tones and ringback tones from one central, easy-to-use desktop application running on your home computer.
