How to Reset My Comcast Remote for a New Cable Box

By Maya Austen

Comcast cable boxes are manufactured by Motorola, Scientific Atlanta and Pace. Each of these manufacturers produce several different cable set top box models which are used by Comcast. Therefore, if for some reason you get a new Comcast cable box, there is no guarantee that the box you receive will be the same brand and model of your old cable box. If you're still using your old Comcast universal remote control, you may need to reprogram the remote to operate the new cable box. The process of reprogramming a Comcast universal remote differs depending upon the type of remote you're using.

Step 1

Manually turn on the new Comcast cable box.

Step 2

Press and release the "Cable" mode key located at the top of the remote control. Press and hold the "Setup" button until the "Cable" mode key blinks twice.

Step 3

Use the remote's number pad to enter "9-9-1". The Cable mode key will blink twice. Press "0". The mode key will again blink twice.

Step 4

Press the remote's "Power" button. Aim the remote control at the cable box. Slowly and continuously press the remote's Channel Up button until the new cable box shuts off. When the cable box shuts off it means that the remote is temporarily programmed with the right code to operate the new cable box.

Step 5
