How Dish Recordings Work

Video of the Day

Dish recordings function much in the same way as a Spectrum DVR recorder, and the Charter cable DVR instructions are also very similar. The remote control is critical for the recordings and is customized to work with the cable box. Recordings are set by locating future shows on the guide and choosing to record on the DVR.

The settings also offer the option to record a series without selecting each individual show. It will automatically record each new episode as it appears. In this case, deleting the series is a slightly different process. On a single show, selecting to delete that individual show is very simple. On a series, deleting individually is also possible but stopping the recording to prevent future shows from storing on the device is necessary, especially when the series is no longer of interest.

Ultimately, the DVR recordings make it easy to store favorite shows for later viewing. The system is intended for temporary storage and even has the option to automatically delete stored shows after a set period of time. The final major advantage is the ability to fast forward through commercials.

Delete a Recording

To delete a recording, press the DVR button and navigate to the recording on the stored shows screen. Navigate to the show and press the blue delete button to remove the individual recording. In the case of a series, select the series and the option will trigger to delete the single show or the entire series. Select the option to remove the entire series.

The other option is stopping the future recordings for the series. If the series is no longer desired, halting future recordings will prevent compiling unwanted episodes in the DVR storage system. Navigate to the Guide and locate a future recording that is preset in the series. Click on the show and the option to Stop this Recording is an option. Choose to stop recording the entire series and it will no longer log these episodes on the DVR.

It really only requires a minute or two to delete a recording or to change the recording settings. The remote control is a critical component and is necessary to control the DVR settings.

DVR vs. Streaming

The DVR system is becoming less common as streaming services with download options gain popularity. Using a DVR is not always an option on new systems either. While the DVR system is not obsolete, different options have made them far less popular. The system may, however, adapt to the market in the future if manufacturers choose to continue production.

Streaming services offer television on demand and in many cases, without commercials or interruptions. The subscription-based services also have download capabilities for watching offline. They do not, however, account for viewing live events like sports and many of the network-owned television shows. The DVR is an excellent system for playback on these events and shows that are not available on streaming services.

The internet does have many different viewing options for playback and highlights that are popular. Using a free service like YouTube is an easy method of watching highlights after an event has already occurred and been recorded.
