OtterBox cases are primarily used for smart phones such as iPhones and Androids.

An OtterBox is a protective case for technological devices such as cell phones and tablet computers. Created by the OtterBox company, there are currently five styles of OtterBox cases: the Impact series, the Commuter series, the Reflex series, the Defender series, and the Armor series. Each series of OtterBox provides distinct protective features and has a specific process for the safe removal of the case. Using the steps below, you can ensure a quick and damage-free removal of your OtterBox.

Step 2

Pinch the top of the case with your free hand. Get a good grip on it.

Step 3

Pull the top of the case back over the top of the device. The case is highly flexible, so it will stretch a great deal without damage.

Step 4

Slide the rest of the case off the bottom of the device.

Commuter Series

Step 1

Hold the phone face up in the palm of one hand.

Step 2

Find the seam between the front and back pieces of the case.

Step 3

Pry the front half of the case from the back half using your fingernail. This is easiest if you know where the "snap" points are on your particular case, but is not too difficult even if you don't.

Step 4

Flip the device over in your hand.

Step 5

Step 2

Hold the left and right ends of the case firmly using your thumbs and your first two fingers.

Step 3

Hold the left side of the case in place while pulling the right side away. This will unsnap the halves of the case.

Pull the right side of the case off the device.

Step 5

Hold the right side of the device and pull the remaining part of the case to the left to remove it.

Defender Series

Step 1

Remove the protective backing to the case if present. This is a hard plastic shell with four "clip-on" points that can be pried off with your thumb.

Step 2

Step 3

If your device is an iPad, slide the square removable piece from the back bottom side of the case, exposing the iPad. Pull up on the circle around the "Apple" logo on the back and slide the top of the case from the bottom. Hold the bottom of the case steady and push the exposed part of the iPad, sliding it out of the case. For devices other than iPads, find the retention clips on the side of the case and unlatch them. Then hold the case steady in one hand and use a thumbnail to pry apart the seam between the front and back of the case. Pull the front off, then flip the device and remove the back.
