Turning a picture into a doodle or cartoon can seem difficult to those with little graphic design experience. Fortunately, dozens of websites and programs exist specifically for this purpose; most are free to use. The software works by recognizing key elements in the photo and then remapping the colors to a simple cartoon color pallet and removing fine details. Some programs even offer cartoon styles such as Anime or Disney. The process usually takes less than a couple of minutes.

The doodle also can be detailed.

Step

Visit a website that offers photo conversions to cartoons (see Resources for options). These websites have similar instructions for creating doodles.

Step

Click on the "Choose File" button. This will pop open an explorer window. Locate the picture file that will be converted into a doodle on the computer and click "OK."

Video of the Day

Step

Select any "Options" offered by the site. The default options should be fine for most users.

Step

Click the "Upload" button. The photo will be uploaded. After the upload, the photo will appear in the "Editing" window.

Step

Select what "Effect" the photo should have from the "Effects Menu."

Step

Locate the "Doodle" or "Cartoon" effect and click "Apply."

Step

The picture will be turned into a doodle. Download the newly edited picture to the computer by right-clicking on it, selecting "Save As," entering a "File Name" and clicking "Save."
